The Carcere Mamertino, also referred to as the Tullianum, is the oldest prison in Rome, situated next to the Roman Forum. This historic site has housed notable prisoners including Vercingetorix and the apostles Peter and Paul. It consists of two levels of ancient caves, partially beneath the Church of San Giuseppe dei Falegnami.
