Zitadelle Petersberg, situated in Erfurt, Germany, is one of the largest and best-preserved city fortifications in Europe, constructed between the 17th and 19th centuries. Commissioned by Johann Philipp von Schönborn as a bastion against Protestant forces, it later fell under Prussian and French control. The fortress features magnificent views of the city and attractions such as the Peterskirche, historic barracks, and a distinctive bastion structure. Visitors can roam the grounds along designated walking paths. Open all year, guided tours are offered. Entrance is free, though donations for its upkeep are welcomed. The site is wheelchair friendly.
