Haseki Hürrem Hamamı in Istanbul is a mid‑16th‑century Ottoman bathhouse commissioned by Hürrem Sultan, the consort of Suleiman the Magnificent, and attributed to the architect Mimar Sinan. Situated in the historic Sultanahmet quarter near Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, it exemplifies Ottoman public architecture and social custom: a double hamam with separate sections for men and women, domed chambers, a central heated platform (göbek taşı), marble basins and original stonework. Its cultural importance derives from imperial patronage, links to women’s history and communal bathing traditions that informed urban life. Key attractions are the preserved architectural volumes, decorative detailing and the engineered heating and water systems. Visiting hours, admission fees and accessibility arrangements change over time and can be affected by conservation constraints and the building’s historic fabric.
