Ebisu Bridge (Ebisubashi) spans the Dotonbori canal in Osaka’s Minami district. The present structure, completed in 2007, continues a sequence of crossings originating from a wooden passage first erected in 1615 and repeatedly rebuilt, including iron and truss forms in the 19th and 20th centuries. Located among neon signage, shopping streets and the celebrated Glico running man, Ebisu serves as a focal point for local civic life and celebrations—particularly sporting victories when crowds assemble and supporters traditionally leap toward the canal—and acts as a symbol of Osaka’s entertainment quarter. Architectural elements recall earlier designs such as a three‑arch motif and riveted ironwork. With Shinsaibashi and Namba nearby, the bridge sits within a compact commercial and cultural milieu; from it are visible illuminated façades and the waterfront urban scene that mirror the area’s commercial and cultural past.
