The Tokyo Imperial Palace, known as Kōkyo, is the primary residence of the Emperor of Japan. Situated in central Tokyo, it holds historic significance as the site of the Edo Castle, the former seat of the Tokugawa shogunate. Visitors can enjoy the East Gardens, a public park that features beautiful scenery and remnants of the castle. Guided tours of the main palace are available from Tuesday to Saturday, and while admission is free, advance reservations are necessary. Much of the palace grounds are not open to the public, and visitors are advised to observe the rules to preserve its integrity.
