Galata Mevlevihanesi Müzesi in the Galata quarter of Istanbul is a historic Mevlevi lodge traditionally dated to the late 15th century and later converted into a museum in the mid‑20th century. As a key centre of the Mevlevi (Whirling Dervish) order, the complex preserves the ritual semahane (ceremonial hall), former dervish cells, a library, tombs and courtyards. The museum’s holdings include illuminated manuscripts, calligraphy, musical instruments (such as ney and percussion), ceremonial robes and accoutrements used in the sema. Its cultural significance arises from links to Rumi’s spiritual legacy, Ottoman religious life and the evolution of Sufi music and poetry. The site functions as a public museum with regular visiting hours and an admission charge; accessibility is constrained by the historic fabric, with some ground‑floor areas accessible but steps and narrow passages restricting full wheelchair access.
