The Municipal Art Gallery, known as Pinacoteca Civica, is situated in Palazzo Gavotti, an impressive 16th-century palace in the historic centre of Savona. Built on the remnants of medieval structures, the palace was later refurbished in the 19th century, establishing a refined venue for one of Savona’s prominent cultural institutions. The gallery showcases significant Renaissance masterpieces, including Donato de' Bardi's 'Crucifixion' and Vincenzo Foppa's 'Pala Fornari.' The collection features works from the 17th and 18th centuries by Ligurian artists like Valerio Castello and Domenico Piola, in addition to Romantic paintings from the 19th century. This collection reflects the artistic heritage greatly influenced by Pope Sixtus IV and Pope Julius II.
