The Mısır Çarşısı, often referred to as the Spice Bazaar, is a historic covered market in the Eminönü district of Istanbul, adjacent to the Yeni Camii and close to the Golden Horn waterfront. Constructed in the 17th century as part of the endowment for the New Mosque complex, it has long served as a principal centre for the sale of spices, herbs, teas, dried fruits, nuts, sweets and other exotic commodities, embodying Ottoman trade and culinary culture. Architecturally it features domed vaults, arched passageways and a compact layout of small shops and stalls. Its cultural importance lies in its continuing function as a living marketplace that sustains traditional crafts, artisanal produce and foodways and contributes to the city’s mercantile history. General practical points: public access is typical and there is no formal admission fee; opening patterns and physical accessibility vary, with narrow aisles and occasional steps.
