Piazza della Cisterna is one of the two main squares in San Gimignano, designed primarily for markets and cultural events throughout its history. The square is triangular in shape and features a travertine well from 1287, which was expanded in 1346. Surrounded by medieval towers and noble houses, it connects to Piazza del Duomo, reflecting the town's Ghibelline commune design from the 13th century. Key attractions include the Arch of Becci and notable buildings such as Palazzo Razzi and Casa Salvestrini, formerly a hospital. The vibrant atmosphere of the square continues to play a central role in local festivities and cultural heritage.
