Fort Saint-Jean is a historic military fort located in Marseille, France. Constructed from 1668 to 1671 on the orders of Louis XIV, it was built to safeguard the entrance to the Old Port. The fort features architecture from various eras, reflecting its extensive history, including its role as a prison during the French Revolution. Now part of the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations (MuCEM), Fort Saint-Jean offers beautiful views of the sea and the city. It is open to the public generally from 10 AM to 7 PM. Admission is free for permanent exhibitions, while some special exhibitions may have a fee. The site is accessible for visitors with reduced mobility.
