The Lateran Obelisk, situated in Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano, is Rome's tallest ancient obelisk, reaching 32.18 meters (45.70 meters including its base and cross). Originally erected in Egypt during the reigns of Pharaohs Thutmose III and IV in the 15th century BC, it was brought to Rome by Emperor Constantius II in 357 AD. This monument holds significant historical value and reflects Roman engineering prowess. Visitors can enjoy its impressive stature while exploring the nearby Basilica of St. John Lateran. The site is open to the public year-round, with no entry fee.
