Der Mahner is a bronze-cast sculpture by the Soviet sculptor Wadim Abramowitsch Sidur, located in Düsseldorf’s Hofgarten. The 4.8-metre-tall abstract, over‑life‑size figure raises hands shaped like a megaphone to its head, evoking a call or admonition; it is often read as a monument against totalitarianism and violence. The van Meeteren Foundation provided funding; the bronze was produced by the Herbert Schmäke art foundry, and the back of the work is signed "Sidur 79" in Cyrillic. Installed on 15 October 1985 on the Ananasberg, the figure is sited so it seems to call over the Landskrone pond, and a stone tablet reproduces an admonitory text linked to the donor. As an outdoor public work in the Hofgarten it can be seen without an admission charge and is generally accessible year‑round; access depends on the park’s pathways.
