Küçük Ayasofya Camii, known as the “Little Hagia Sophia,” is a notable sixth‑century monument in Istanbul, originally constructed as the Byzantine Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus during Justinian’s reign. Later converted to a mosque in the Ottoman era, the building represents an early Byzantine central‑plan model that anticipated features of the larger Hagia Sophia. Its compact domed interior, alternating brick and stone courses, reused classical columns and surviving ornamental fragments convey a long history of religious and artistic continuity. Situated in the historic Sultanahmet area, the monument holds cultural resonance for both Christian and Muslim traditions and exemplifies the city’s stratified urban and devotional history. Principal attractions include the balanced dome, refined interior details and external façades demonstrating skilled workmanship and adaptive reuse.
