The Asinelli Tower, a landmark of Bologna, was constructed between 1109 and 1119 by the noble Gherardo Asinelli. At 97.2 metres high, it is the tallest leaning tower in Italy. Visitors can ascend 498 steps for breathtaking views of the city. The tower epitomises the medieval influence of Bologna and its architectural heritage. It is currently closed for maintenance, but normally allows entry for a fee. Be sure to verify visiting hours and any special conditions beforehand. The tower is easily reached by public transport in the city centre.
