The Neptungrotte in Potsdam, situated within the Sanssouci Park, is a striking example of baroque architecture completed between 1751 and 1757 on the orders of Frederick the Great. Designed by Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff, it features magnificent sculptures of Neptune, Naiads, and Tritons, created by sculptor Johann Peter Benkert. The grotto was part of an elaborate water feature system, and while initial attempts to integrate flowing water were unsuccessful, it was later successfully achieved using steam power. Visitors can admire exquisite marble structures and unique decorations with coral and shells. The site holds historical significance for its artistic and engineering achievements in the 18th century. It is open year-round; however, specific hours may vary by season. Admission is free, and the site is accessible to tourists with mobility impairments.
