The Doridis Telescope, situated at the National Observatory of Athens, is a significant historical astronomical instrument that celebrated its centenary in 2002. This refractor telescope boasts a 40-centimetre lens and a focal length of 5 metres, making it one of Greece’s most notable instruments. Named after the benefactor who financed its construction, the telescope allows visitors to delve into the rich history of astronomy in Greece while enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the Observatory, located on the Hill of the Nymphs. The site opens to the public, with guided tours generally running from 10 AM to 6 PM. Entry is free, though donations are appreciated. The Observatory is accessible via public transport.
