Gapstow Bridge is a rustic stone arch bridge situated at the south‑east corner of Central Park in New York City. One of the first landmarks encountered on entering that corner, it is regarded as a prime photographic vantage alongside Bethesda Fountain and Belvedere Castle. The present stone structure, erected in 1896 to replace an earlier wooden and cast‑iron bridge, has endured for over a century. The bridge spans the narrow neck of the Pond, offering commanding views: to the south the skyline of Central Park South, to the west the wooded Hallett Nature Sanctuary, and to the north Wollman Rink. Its vine‑clad masonry blends with the landscape, and it holds cultural significance as a local gathering place and a recurring backdrop in photographs of the city. Visiting hours, admission and accessibility align with Central Park’s general provisions.
