Örme Dikilitaş, commonly known as the Walled Obelisk, is a masonry monument located in the historic Hippodrome of Constantinople (now Sultanahmet, Istanbul). Constructed in the medieval era and subsequently altered, the column was once covered with metal plates and inscriptions and has suffered damage and undergone restorations, embodying the city’s Byzantine and Ottoman layers. As part of the Hippodrome ensemble — with the Obelisk of Theodosius and the Serpent Column — it carries cultural significance as a symbol of imperial pageantry and communal memory. Situated in an open historic square close to principal sites such as Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, it is contextualised by interpretive panels and conservation activity. Practical details like visiting times, admission and accessibility are subject to municipal management and conservation needs; the monument is typically experienced as an outdoor public landmark rather than an indoor museum piece.
