St. Joseph Catholic Church, situated in downtown San Antonio, is a historic Gothic Revival parish of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Antonio. Founded in 1871, it is the city’s fourth Catholic parish and is located on a site believed to be the second location of the Alamo. The church boasts beautiful murals by Friar Henry Pfefferkorn, a steeple added in 1898, and exquisite stained glass windows imported from Munich. Known for its defiance against urban development in the 1940s, it earned the nickname "Saint Joske's" when a department store was constructed around it after parishioners rejected the sale. Today, St. Joseph Church serves as a vibrant cultural landmark, hosting Spanish-language Masses with mariachi music, making it a must-see for tourists interested in San Antonio’s rich heritage.
