York Guildhall is a historic municipal building situated in the centre of York, built between 1449 and 1459 to serve as a meeting space for the city's guilds. It has hosted significant occasions, including the trial of St Margaret Clitherow and the counting of Charles I's ransom in 1647. The original building suffered extensive damage during World War II but was meticulously restored and reopened in 1960. Praised for its architectural elegance and historical importance, the Guildhall features a newly crafted stained glass window illustrating various dimensions of York's heritage. Although the City of York Council convened here until 2017, it now acts as a hub for start-up businesses, reflecting its ongoing importance to the city.
