Yenikapı Marmaray İstasyonu is a major underground rail and interchange hub on Istanbul’s Marmaray corridor, linking Europe and Asia via the Bosphorus rail tunnel. Opened as part of the Marmaray project in 2013, the station overlies one of Turkey’s most important archaeological excavation areas; works unearthed thousands of artefacts and dozens of ship remains from prehistoric, Byzantine and Ottoman periods, altering understanding of the city’s continuous maritime and urban history. The location combines modern transport infrastructure with tangible layers of past settlement, and nearby displays and museum collections exhibit finds recovered during the excavation. As a functioning transport node it serves regular commuter services and connects to other urban lines; archaeological areas and exhibitions operate according to museum routines. The station incorporates contemporary accessibility features and exemplifies Istanbul’s millennia‑long role as a cultural and continental crossroads.
