Taourirt Kasbah in Ouarzazate is a 19th‑century fortified palace that served as a regional seat of the Glaoui family and a local administrative centre. Constructed of rammed earth and adorned with carved plaster and painted cedar wood, the kasbah comprises towers, courtyards, private rooms, storerooms and a granary that together typify traditional southern Moroccan kasbah architecture and social organisation. Historically both residential and defensive, it is a cultural landmark of the Draa‑Tafilalet region and has appeared in international film productions, connecting it to Ouarzazate’s cinematic heritage. General visitor arrangements are in place: the site is open to the public with an entrance fee and seasonal visiting hours, while accessibility is limited by uneven surfaces, narrow passages and stairs. Conservation efforts centre on stabilising earthen fabric and conserving decorative finishes.
