The Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stretches 202 kilometres from Ottawa to Kingston, connecting the Ottawa River to Lake Ontario. Opened in 1832, it is the oldest continuously operated canal in North America and played a pivotal role in early Canadian trade and settlement. Key attractions include its historic lock stations, scenic lakes, and the world’s largest skating rink during winter. The canal is operational for pleasure boating from May to October. Visiting hours vary by location, and admission is free; however, fees may apply for lockage services. The canal is accessible for all visitors, with facilities available at various points along the route.
