The Areopagus is a historic rocky hill located northwest of the Acropolis in Athens, standing at about 115 metres. It was named after the god Ares and served as a significant judicial site in ancient Athens, where the Court of the Areopagus presided over serious criminal cases. Visitors can explore the site, which is rich in archaeological remnants, including a cemetery dating back to the Mycenaean period. The Areopagus is also linked to the Apostle Paul's visit in 51 AD, where he preached Christianity. Today, it is not only a landmark but also serves as the highest court in Greece. The site is free to enter and accessible, providing spectacular views of the Acropolis and the city. Recommended visiting hours are during daylight.
