Paço de São Cristóvão, also referred to as the Imperial Palace, is a historical site situated in the Quinta da Boa Vista park in Rio de Janeiro. Constructed as a royal residence in the early 19th century, it served as home to both the Portuguese and Brazilian imperial families until 1889. The palace housed the National Museum of Brazil, which contained vast collections of natural history and anthropology. Visitors can appreciate the remnants of its neoclassical architecture and lovely gardens. Regrettably, a severe fire in 2018 caused significant damage to the building. Currently, access to the site is limited, but restoration efforts are in progress. Admission fees and visiting hours may vary, so checking official sources before your visit is recommended.
