The Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral in Thera, known as the Church of Ypapantis, is a striking example of 19th-century architecture, constructed in 1827 by M. Belloni. After being rebuilt following the 1956 earthquake, the cathedral features elegant white arches and a notable white dome. Visitors can admire the beautiful frescoes by local artist Christoforos Asimis and stunning mosaics added in 1975. This landmark church offers a captivating environment rich in colour and light, highlighted by detailed iconography. Admission is free, but modest dress is necessary, and it is best to visit during quieter times for reflection.
