The Toronto Zoo, established on August 15, 1974, is the largest zoo in Canada, located in Scarborough, Toronto. Spanning 287 hectares, it houses over 5,000 animals from more than 300 species across seven zoogeographic regions, including the Indo-Malaya and African domains. Originally opened as the Metropolitan Toronto Zoo, it underwent a name change in 1998 following the amalgamation of Toronto. The zoo emphasizes conservation, education, and a naturalistic environment for its animals, making it a vital cultural and recreational destination for both locals and tourists.
