Büyük Mecidiye Camii (commonly called the Ortaköy Mosque) is a 19th‑century waterfront mosque in the Ortaköy quarter of Istanbul, erected during the reign of Sultan Abdülmecid I. Its architecture combines Ottoman Baroque and other 19th‑century eclectic influences, notable for intricate stone carving, slender twin minarets and a prominent dome facing the Bosphorus. Historically it reflects the cosmopolitan character of the neighbourhood and late Ottoman imperial patronage; it has functioned as both a place of worship and a city landmark featured in cultural imagery. Key attractions comprise the sculpted façade, interior ornamentation and calligraphic panels, the mihrab and minbar, and the striking waterside location with views of the strait and bridge. Visiting hours vary and generally follow religious timetables; admission is often free though donations may be welcomed; accessibility and facilities vary locally.
