Jogyesa, the principal temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, is situated in Jongno District, Seoul. Established in 1395 and renamed Jogyesa in 1954, it is central to Korean Buddhism. The Templestay programme allows visitors to immerse themselves in monastic life. Notable features include ancient trees, the Geuknakjeon Hall, and the celebrated lantern festival during Buddha's Birthday, held from 6th to 22nd May. The temple is open all year and admission is free. It is easily accessible by public transport and is a key cultural site.
