The Mosquée Somalie (Somali Mosque) occupies a central position in Ouarzazate, within the historical Souss‑Massa‑Drâa area of Morocco. Local accounts indicate it was first constructed in 1922 by Somali merchants active in the town. In 1969, at the First Islamic Summit Conference in Rabat (22–25 September), the late King Hassan II designated the building in honour of Somalia and carried out renovations and decorative work that shaped much of its present character. The mosque bears cultural weight as a marker of historic trading links and pan‑Islamic fraternity, featuring customary Moroccan mosque elements — a prayer hall, minaret, courtyard and intricate tile and stucco decoration — together with commemorative embellishments from the 1969 interventions. Routine use follows prayer times; entrance is generally free or supported by donations, and access is mainly at street level though steps or limited amenities may affect mobility.
