Catete Palace, or Palácio do Catete in Portuguese, is a notable historic building located in the Flamengo district of Rio de Janeiro. Constructed between 1858 and 1867, it was Brazil's presidential residence from 1897 to 1960. The palace is historically significant as the location of pivotal events, including the tragic suicide of President Getúlio Vargas. Now, it serves as the Museu da República, where visitors can admire its stunning neoclassical architecture and gardens while learning about Brazil's rich history. The museum opens Tuesday to Sunday and charges an admission fee. It is conveniently accessible via public transportation, including the Catete underground station.
