Baile Hill is a man-made earth mound located in York, England, and represents the last remnant of the fortification known as the Old Baile. Dating back to 1068, it was constructed by William the Conqueror beside the River Ouse. This motte-and-bailey castle included a 40-foot high motte and a rectangular bailey. While primarily used for grazing, it was notably a royalist gun emplacement during the Civil War. Today, Baile Hill is a significant historical site that provides insight into York's medieval heritage, featuring unique earthworks that reflect its cultural importance.
