Catedral de Oaxaca, formally the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, stands in the historic centre of Oaxaca de Juárez in southern Mexico. Dating to the colonial period with construction and later alterations over centuries, it functions as the city’s principal Catholic church and a focus of religious and civic life. The cathedral displays colonial architecture with Baroque and Neoclassical influences, a striking façade and twin towers, and a richly adorned interior with altarpieces, murals, sculptures and liturgical objects. Notable features include the main altar, side chapels, choir, bell towers and collections of religious art and historical artefacts. General visiting hours balance worship and visitation; many areas are often free to enter, while particular exhibitions or tower access may incur modest fees. As a historic structure, accessibility is limited in places: steps and narrow passages can restrict movement, although some adaptations are present.
