Kız Kulesi, commonly known in English as the Maiden’s Tower, stands on a small islet at the southern entrance to the Bosphorus near Üsküdar in Istanbul. Its origins trace back to antiquity and it was rebuilt repeatedly through Byzantine and Ottoman periods, serving historically as a watchtower, lighthouse, quarantine and customs post; later adaptations have included exhibition and dining uses. The tower is a potent cultural symbol of Istanbul and figures in local legends and artistic representations, contributing to the city’s maritime identity. Key attractions include the historic masonry and silhouette, panoramic Bosphorus views, interpretive displays and on-site hospitality spaces. The site is open to the public under managed visiting hours with admission charged; schedules and fees are subject to change. Access requires a short boat transfer and may involve stairs or limited mobility constraints, as it occupies a compact islet.
