Elagabalium, built by Emperor Elagabalus in the early 3rd century AD, was a temple dedicated to the sun god El-Gabal. Located on the Palatine Hill, it served as a center for the controversial worship of 'Deus Sol Invictus', highlighting the cultural exchange between Roman and Syrian religions. Visitors can explore the remains of the temple, characterized by its large terrace and few standing columns, offering a glimpse into ancient Roman architecture. The site is near the Church of San Sebastiano and provides stunning views of the Colosseum. Admission is free, and the site is accessible to the public. Visiting hours are generally from 9 AM to sunset. Note that while the temple itself is in ruins, the surrounding area is rich in archaeological significance.
