Ebisu Bridge (Ebisubashi) spans the Dotonbori canal in Osaka’s Minami district. The current structure, completed in 2007, continues a line of crossings dating from a wooden passage first installed in 1615 and rebuilt repeatedly, including iron and truss versions in the 19th and 20th centuries. Set amid neon signs, shopping streets and the famous Glico running man, Ebisu functions as a focal point for local civic life and celebrations—notably sporting triumphs when crowds gather and fans have traditionally leapt toward the canal—and stands as a symbol of Osaka’s entertainment quarter. Architectural details recall earlier designs such as a three‑arched motif and riveted ironwork. Nearby Shinsaibashi and Namba situate the bridge within a dense commercial and cultural landscape; from the span one sees illuminated façades and the waterfront urban fabric that reflect the area’s commercial and cultural history.
