Chater Garden (遮打花園) is a compact public garden in the Central district of Hong Kong Island, named for Sir Paul Chater, a prominent colonial-era businessman and philanthropist. Established as an urban green space in the early 20th century, it has historical resonance as part of the city’s civic landscape and has long hosted cultural events, community gatherings and political assemblies. The site offers landscaped lawns, mature trees, shaded walkways and a modest pavilion-like structure, and is framed by adjacent civic and commercial architecture that reflects Hong Kong’s layered history. As a municipal park it is generally open during daylight hours and typically free to enter; provisions for level pathways and nearby transport connections support accessibility, while ongoing stewardship preserves its role as a cultural and communal pocket amid the financial district.
