Strawberry Fields is a landscaped "Garden of Peace" in Manhattan's Central Park, created as a living memorial to John Lennon after his 1980 murder. Dedicated in 1985 and designed by landscape architect Bruce Kelly, the site takes its name from the Beatles song and from a Liverpool children's home. Its central attraction is the black-and-white "Imagine" mosaic, a gift from artisans in Naples, Italy, set within plantings, benches and winding paths near the Dakota apartment building where Lennon lived. Over decades it has become a place of pilgrimage, artistic tribute and public remembrance, known for spontaneous music gatherings and commemorations. The memorial is open to the public during Central Park hours; there is no admission fee. Paths, seating areas and nearby approaches are generally wheelchair accessible and the setting is maintained in partnership with park conservation groups.
