The Roman Dam of Belas, also known as the Dam of Olisipo, is an ancient Roman structure located about 10 km from Lisbon in the municipality of Sintra. Dating back to the 3rd century, it features a wall made of opus incertum, measuring approximately 50 meters in length and 8 meters in height. The dam was crucial for supplying water to the Roman Aqueduct of Amadora, leading to the city of Olisipo (Lisbon). Today, it stands as a significant archaeological site, recognized as a Property of Public Interest since 1974. Visitors can explore its impressive ruins and appreciate its historical importance.
