Villa dello Spedaluzzo, also known as Villa Lo Spedaletto, is located in Florence, Italy, on Via Bolognese at the corner of Vicolo di San Marco Vecchio. Historically, it served as a hospice for travelers and pilgrims along the road to Florence, which is reflected in its name. The original institution was suppressed in the 14th century, and the property changed hands several times, notably coming into the possession of the Giugni family and later the Migliori family, who made significant alterations to the building. Throughout its history, the villa has connections to prominent families, including the Nerli, Canigiani, Medici, and Strozzi. In the mid-19th century, the villa was owned by Robert Laedbrok and subsequently by Lord Phipps, before eventually becoming part of the Rothschild estate. Notably, architect Giuseppe Poggi redesigned the surrounding area during this period, transforming the ancient public road into a private avenue. The villa fell into disrepair after being sold to a Panamanian company in 1969. However, between 2000 and 2004, it underwent restoration and was divided into five residential units. Recent owners have revitalized the grounds and restored the English-style garden. Visitors can appreciate the villa's architectural features, including a central courtyard, a loggia supported by stone columns, and beautifully decorated interiors with vaulted ceilings.
