The Cavalli di San Marco, or Horses of Saint Mark, are a group of four bronze statues originally part of a quadriga located at the Hippodrome of Constantinople. Dating back to either the 4th century BC or the 4th century AD, they were brought to Venice in 1204 by Crusaders. The horses have immense historical and cultural significance, symbolizing Venetian power and artistry. They were displayed on the façade of the Basilica di San Marco until 1977 when replicas were installed. Today, after extensive restoration, the original statues reside in the Basilica Museum. Visitors can explore the incredible artistry and rich history of these sculptures. The museum is open daily, with an admission fee required. Accessibility options are available for those with mobility concerns.
