Madonna dell'Orto, in Venice’s Cannaregio district, is a late medieval church named after a venerated image of the Virgin reportedly found in an orchard. With origins in the late 14th and 15th centuries, its exterior displays Venetian Gothic features and a distinctive bell tower; the interior contains richly decorated chapels, funerary monuments and an important collection of Renaissance paintings. The church is particularly celebrated for works by Jacopo Tintoretto, who lived nearby and is buried there, and whose paintings contribute strongly to its art‑historical significance. Locally it has served devotional confraternities and played a role in Venice’s civic and religious life, making it significant for both art history and popular devotion. The site is generally open at defined hours, often with free entry or a modest charge or donation; as a historic building it has limited step access and only partial accessibility adaptations.
