The Arch of Titus is a first‑century CE Roman triumphal arch on the Via Sacra at the eastern end of the Roman Forum, erected around 81 CE by Emperor Domitian to commemorate the victories and deification of his brother Titus following the Jewish War and the capture of Jerusalem. The limestone and marble monument is notable for its richly carved reliefs—most famously the inner panel showing Roman soldiers bearing the Temple menorah and other spoils—and for its dedicatory inscription. Over centuries the arch influenced imperial and commemorative architecture across Europe and became a potent symbol in both Roman imperial ideology and Jewish historical memory. Visitors appreciate its artistic detail and its role within the wider Forum complex; the arch is visible from surrounding public areas, may be encountered as part of archaeological‑site access, and has limited accessibility because of its ancient fabric and site topography.
