Poort Waerachtig, a 19th-century neo-Gothic gate in Maastricht, was built between 1887-1888 as a connection between Begijnenstraat and Sint Pieterskade. It was designed by architect Pierre Cuypers and features three passageways for pedestrians and vehicles. The gate holds historical significance as part of the city’s medieval fortifications. Visitors can admire the reliefs on the exterior, showcasing the city’s coat of arms and a poetic inscription. Although the gate suffered damage in 1936, it remains a cultural landmark within the Jekerkwartier. Access is free, and it is a short walk from the city center, making it a convenient stop for tourists exploring Maastricht’s rich history.
