The Cathedral of Saint Nicolo di Bari, located in the heart of Taormina's Cathedral Square, is an important historical and religious site. Established in the 13th century, this stunning example of Sicilian-Gothic architecture is often referred to as the "Cathedral Fortress" due to its battlements. Inside, visitors can admire the intricate pink marble columns and notable artworks, including a painting of the Visitation by Antonio Giuffrè and a polyptych by Antonello de Saliba. The church was designated a Minor Basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1980. Open daily for visitors, the cathedral has no admission fee, making it easily accessible for all. It serves as a vibrant center for the local community and hosts various cultural events throughout the year.
