Bank of China Tower (中銀大廈), located in the Central district on Hong Kong Island and designed by architect I. M. Pei, was completed in 1990 and is celebrated as a landmark of late‑20th‑century Hong Kong. Its distinctive arrangement of triangular prisms, glass curtain wall and visible X‑bracing creates a striking geometric silhouette that helped shape the city's modern skyline and international image. Historically and culturally, the skyscraper symbolizes Hong Kong’s financial growth and appears frequently in photography, film and festival lighting; it has also prompted local feng shui discussion. Visitors are drawn to the exterior form, the ground‑level plaza and the illuminated night view; public areas such as the plaza and lobby are generally accessible during daytime, upper floors are private and there is no public observation deck. External viewing is typically free and public areas provide step‑free access, though some zones may require security screening.
