Southwark Cathedral, located near London Bridge, is the mother church of the Diocese of Southwark and has been a place of Christian worship for over 1,000 years. The cathedral, officially known as the Cathedral and Collegiate Church of St Saviour and St Mary Overie, showcases stunning Gothic architecture. Visitors can explore its rich history, including its transformation from an Augustinian priory to a parish church after the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century. Key attractions include the beautiful stained glass windows, the memorial to poet John Gower, and the resident cats, Hodge and the late Doorkins Magnificat. Open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM, admission is free, but donations are welcome. The cathedral is wheelchair accessible.
