Gertrude van der Oosten, also known as Gertrude of Delft, is a significant figure in Dutch mysticism and spirituality. Born to peasant parents, she entered domestic service before joining the beguinage in Delft, where she led a life of contemplation. Known for her devotion to the Passion of Christ, she is believed to have received the Stigmata in 1340. Gertrude died on January 6, 1358, and is buried in the Church of St. Hippolytus. Though her cult is local, her legacy offers insight into the Beguine movement and medieval spirituality. Visitors can explore her statue in Delft, reflecting the city's rich cultural heritage. The area is accessible, with local amenities available for tourists. Admission to the church is free, but donations are appreciated.
