The National Bunraku Theatre (国立文楽劇場) in Chūō‑ku, Osaka, opened in 1984 as Japan’s fourth national theatre and serves as the headquarters for bunraku puppet theatre. The complex comprises two performance halls and an exhibition room: a Large Theatre seating around 700 depending on configuration, primarily for bunraku, buyō and stage plays, and a Small Hall for other traditional arts such as rakugo, manzai and Japanese music. Operated by the Japan Arts Council under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the venue is a major center for preservation, presentation and education in traditional performing arts, hosting staged performances, demonstrations and exhibitions. Practical arrangements, including schedules and admission, vary by programme; facilities are designed to accommodate diverse audiences and provide general accessibility.
