Anadolu Hisarı is a late‑14th‑century Ottoman fortress on the Anatolian shore of the Bosphorus in Istanbul, built by Sultan Bayezid I to control maritime traffic and to serve as a staging point for expansion toward Constantinople. Its surviving tower and curtain walls form a compact example of early Ottoman military architecture and provide historical context for the later construction of the opposing Rumeli Hisarı. The site occupies a historic neighbourhood with traditional houses, small mosques and a distinctive waterfront character that reflect centuries of Bosporus life. As a cultural landmark it illustrates Ottoman strategic planning, maritime control and the pre‑conquest landscape; local interpretation and historical accounts explain its role in regional trade and defence. Access is generally informal and can be affected by preservation work and uneven terrain; opening arrangements and any fees are managed locally and may vary. Accessibility for mobility‑impaired visitors may be limited.
